This personal photo collection shows my journey to womanhood – from my parents’ firstborn son in Honolulu to the embodiment of the person I knew myself to be.

Before standing fully in my truth, my childhood photos brought me pain – so much so that I made Mom keep them in a box in the back of our storage closet in Hawaii. Now, these photos, which I’m sharing with you, bring me joy because collectively the images show me how far that little kid from Kalihi has come.

I no longer split myself, my life, my existence by gender. All I see is the totality of me.
